THE FILMMAKING LAB

Inside Storie Society

Experiment with other filmmakers who are figuring out how to raise money, attach producers, and bring recognizable actors on board, even before financing in today's ever changing industry.

The hardest part of getting a film made isn’t writing it. It’s knowing how the money actually works. Who invests in films like yours? What do they need to see? How do you get on their radar?

Inside The Filmmaking Lab (part of Storie Society), you’ll learn how indie filmmakers are finding real sponsors, local investors, co-financing deals, and soft money, while building the packages and materials that make producers and actors say yes.

It’s a working space built for today’s filmmakers, the ones figuring out new paths in a changing industry, testing ideas, comparing notes, and learning how to get their projects made on their own terms.

WITH THE RIGHT FRAMEWORK AND COMMUNITY...

YOU DON'T HAVE TO KEEP RUNNING INTO THE SAME WALL!

You have a project you believe in, but the money feels impossible and the next step is unclear.

The Filmmaking Lab helps you see what to do next. It shows how to find sponsors, local investors, co-financing partners, or even attach recognizable actors before financing is in place.

Today, filmmakers have more tools and more control than ever before. The Lab is about using them with the same spirit indie filmmakers started with, experimenting, adapting, and finding creative ways to make your project work.

It’s a place of knowledge and community, a space to test ideas, explore what’s working, and build real traction for your film alongside other filmmakers doing the same thing.

INTRODUCING

THE FILMMAKING LAB

A place to experiment and learn how to raise money for your film, grow your audience, or even figure out distribution.  Even better is that it sits inside Storie Society community so you can learn from others, share insights, and get support from others doing the same.

YOUR FILM DESERVES MOMENTUM

There are more tools, more access, and more paths than ever, but also more noise, competition, and confusion about where to start.

The Filmmaking Lab helps you cut through that and focus on what moves your project forward.

You’ll learn how to:

  • Find sponsors, investors, and collaborators who believe in your vision
  • Attach the right producers and cast
  • Grow an audience before your film is finished
  • Create multiple paths to revenue and sustainability

Every filmmaker hits that moment when the project stalls. You’ve got the story, but the money, partners, or cast feel just out of reach.

The Filmmaking Lab helps you close that gap. You’ll learn how to turn your idea into something people can actually say yes to

PILLAR 1

MONEY, AUDIENCE AND SUPPORT

Funding is the first major wall you hit. You have a film that's ready to be made but you are lacking funding.

The great thing about today's filmmaking environment, is that there are a lot of different ways to get funding for your film. The best part, is that you can use all of them together, giving you all the financing you need.  Many indie films today are finding sponsors, local investors, community support, and early fans.

Experiment with:

  • Local Sponsors and local investors

  • Crowdfunding and crowd investing has matured

  • Community support and in-kind opportunities

  • Audiences become financial supporters

  • Outreach and network

This is where real experimentation comes in. This is where community collaboration inside Storie Society gives you the tools and the network to find funding for your film.

PILLAR 2

ATTACH THE TALENT AND TEAM

Talent and team can feel like the second wall you hit. You want recognizable actors and a producer who believes in your film, but you are not sure how to reach them or what to send, especially without financing in place.

You can start these conversations earlier than you think. Plenty indie filmmakers attach actors, producers, and key collaborators script stage, even before financing.

Experiment with:

  • How to reach out to actors and their reps with no money
  • Approaching the right producers for your film
  • Writing clear, human outreach emails
  • Sharing your project in ways actors and producers can respond to quickly

Inside Storie Society, you can share who you are reaching out to, see how others are doing it, and learn from real attempts, not theory. You do not have to guess alone how people make these connections.

PILLAR 3

BUILD YOUR PACKAGE

Packaging can feel like the part you skip. You have a script, a vision, and maybe even some interest, but you are not sure what materials you actually need or how polished they should be. It can feel overwhelming to figure out what to prepare and what people want to see first.

A strong package can feel complicated. You do need a lot of material. Even more complicated is that a package for a producer and a package for an investor can require different things. But the right package can be the difference between someone saying no or saying yes.

Test out the different kind of packages you may need:

  • Make a pitch deck that speaks to your film’s strengths
  • Create versions of your package for actors, producers, and investors
  • Understand budget basics
  • Putting together a film business plan

Inside Storie Society, you can share your deck, your plan, or whatever you are building and get ideas from others doing the same. You do not have to guess what works or try to build everything alone.

PILLAR 4

DISTRIBUTION AND REVENUE

Distribution can feel like the final unknown. You put so much into making the film that you are not sure how to get it in front of people or how to earn money from it once it is done. It can feel like everything comes down to a single festival or a single buyer, and that can be discouraging.

The good thing is that you have more options than ever. You can screen locally, tour your film, use streaming platforms, partner with small distributors, or release it yourself. Many indie filmmakers today are finding ways to mix these approaches and earn revenue from their work long after the film is finished.

Experiment with:

  • Touring your film or hosting local screenings
  • Pitching to small distributors or boutique labels
  • Building merchandise or supporter-based revenue
  • Creating opportunities that earn money beyond the film itself

Inside Storie Society, you can share your plan, your screenings, your release ideas, and see how others are navigating distribution. You are not doing the final step alone or trying to figure out revenue from scratch.

PERSONAL SUPPORT INSIDE THE COMMUNITY

LEARN WITH OTHERS, NOT ALONE

One of the hardest parts of making a film is feeling like you have to figure everything out by yourself. Inside Storie Society, you never work in isolation. You can share what you are building, talk through problems, ask questions, and get feedback from people who are navigating the same challenges you are.

Every project inside the community brings something different. You can see how others approach funding, packaging, casting, or distribution, and you can bring your own ideas into the mix. The support you get is practical, honest, and grounded in real attempts from real filmmakers.

Inside the community you can:

  • Share what you are working on and get feedback
  • See how others are solving the same problems you face
  • Join discussions around funding, materials, casting, and release
  • Stay connected with filmmakers who are building at the same pace
  • Learn from experiments, and from theory

You are not doing this alone. You are part of a community that cares about making films and helping each other move forward.
